Maud Tousey Fangel, 1881- 1968, was born Maud Tousey in Boston Massachusetts. She began drawing as a child and studied at Boston's School of Fine Arts. She obtained a scholarship to Cooper Union in New York and continued her studies. She applied for a job at Good Housekeeping Magazine. Maud was hires by Senior Editor, Guy Fangel, who gave her her first commerical assignments. Guy and Maud were married and after the birth of their son Lloyd Maud began drawing babies and young children. Ms. Fangel's did more than 1500 pictures of her son before he was three -- and later she would immortalize his face as the boy on the Cracker Jack box. Many of Ms. Fangel's pictures were done in pastels.
